Curriculum

The Marine Science Academy curriculum is a four-course sequence designed to fit within a student’s regular high school schedule.

It offers a focused and immersive study of the marine environment through hands-on learning and real-world applications. Rooted in the Ocean Literacy Principles and aligned with the Next Generation Science Standards, the curriculum builds essential skills in scientific inquiry, marine ecology, and environmental stewardship.

After completing Marine Studies 1, only students officially enrolled in the Academy may continue into advanced marine science courses, ensuring a cohesive and in-depth learning experience throughout all four years.

All student in the Academy will work in the BMHS Marine Science Lab, a combined classroom and lab space that opened in 2019 where students engage in lands-on learning. Click here to learn more about this unique learning space.
