Marine Science Pathway Students Get Muddy in the Marsh with SoundWaters
BMHS

Students from the BMHS Marine Science Pathway teamed up with SoundWaters to participate in the organization’s high school study of a two-acre salt marsh in Stamford Harbor.

BMHS was the first school to visit the area, collecting data on animals that will contribute to a population study of this critical habitat. Through their work, the students are beginning to understand the impact of human activity and warming waters on our local environment.

The collaboration will continue in January when SoundWaters visits the Marine Science lab at BMHS for further lessons. Thousands of students from Stamford and Norwalk will participate in the study over the next few years as SoundWaters undertakes a restoration that will return the marsh to a healthy, resilient environment.

This salt marsh education project is made possible by Ben Gifford and Jane Carlin with additional support from the Dorr Foundation.
