Inspiring Future Explorers! IB Marine Science Students Visit The Explorers Club
Students in our IB Marine Science classes had an unforgettable experience visiting The Explorers Club earlier this month.
During their visit, students had the incredible opportunity to meet Richard Garriott, the only person in the world to journey to outer space, the North Pole, the South Pole, and the deepest part of the ocean. He shared fascinating insights into his exploration adventures, inspiring students with stories of space travel and discovery.
They also met Vicki Ferrini, Senior Research Scientist at Columbia University's Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory, who introduced them to SEABED 2030 and the ambitious global effort to map the ocean floor.
As part of the visit, students toured the historic club, sat at Theodore Roosevelt's board table, and even held a witch doctor's stick, stepping into the rich history of exploration.
This amazing trip was made possible through connections with Tim Keyes, an Explorers Club member, who previously hosted our IB students for a water quality testing expedition along the Norwalk River.
We hope to make this an annual tradition, inspiring our students to become the next generation of Explorers!
