BMHS Senior Anthony Luna Awarded Highly Competitive Torch Scholarship

Brien McMahon High School wishes to congratulate senior Anthony Luna on his award of the highly competitive Torch Scholarship from Northeastern University.

Luna was accepted because of his academic excellence and proud leadership skills, serving as a class president for all four years at Brien McMahon. He’s also a leader who connects with a wide range of students in his class.

The Torch Scholarship is a highly selective program, only accepting 15 of 500 applicants at a highly selective university (only accepting 5.9% of all applicants). It provides a full scholarship including expenses and enrolls students in a program unique for these 15 future leaders.

Luna is a leader in the classroom where he gathers fellow students together and leads the charge in solving the hardest problems. He’s also a person that students from all grade levels gravitate to as they talk about musicians, video games, and whatever else is happening in school and in their lives.

Before choosing to attend Northeastern, Luna also received the Day of Pride Scholarship from the University of Connecticut, which is awarded to students who show exceptional academic ability, provide service to their school and community, and are good citizens and leaders.

Luna has made a huge impact on the school culture of Brien McMahon as he demonstrates that first generation college students can achieve at the highest level and have A LOT of fun along the way.
